Wheel of Protection"
"The giving of generosity, free from attachment,
is like a farmer sowing seeds.
It accomplishes our wishes and intentions
without waste.
Discover the essense of your wealth.
This is my heart's advice."
-- Drigung Bhande Dharmaradza, The Jewel Treasury of Advice
The path of the bodhisattva is the six perfections. The first of these perfections is called "dana" in Sanskrit, "jinpa" in Tibetan and "giving" in English. Generosity is the practice of giving fully without attachment and is a skillful method by which all the Buddhas attained enlightenment through the collection of merit.
Three Rivers Dharma Center strives to share an ancient tradition of authentic, profound and transformative Buddhist teachings and practices with our friends in the Greater Pittsburgh region. While this Dharma is free to all, like the rays of sun which shine down with impartiality upon the earth, there are relative costs associated with the transmission of the teachings. We hope that those who participate in our weekly teachings and other events will practice the Perfection of Generosity by making financial contributions to Three Rivers Dharma Center.
Often times, we don't realize the financial costs which support the transmission of these teachings and practices in the Pittsburgh region. So as to remain transparent, we will gladly share our finances with anyone who asks. In general, all monies collected through donations to Three Rivers Dharma Center are used for the following purposes:
- Expected rent at new center (approximately $500/month)
- Hosting lamas (domestic and international airfare, interpretors, donations for teachings and their well-being as our guests. $800 - $2000/visit)
- Printing of practice texts, study materials and promotional flyers (including mailing)
- Center upkeep - candles, incense, ritual items
Based upon the expense of an event and the expected number of attendees, we determine a 'suggested donation' for that event. We invite all to attend our events and practice generosity to whatever level they feel financially comfortable. NO PERSON IS EVER TURNED AWAY! There are many methods of practicing generosity and we welcome you to donate money, services and dharma practice to maintain the center as an authentic place for the study and practice of the Buddhadharma.
